Funnychord partnered with a respected Indiana-based environmental consulting firm that provided innovative and cost-effective environmental, engineering, and management consulting services.

Established in 1996, the firm built a strong reputation across public, private, and government sectors — particularly for its expertise in Brownfield redevelopment and environmental remediation.

Our work focused on modernizing their brand identity and digital infrastructure while honoring the scientific credibility that defined their reputation.

The Challenge

By 2004, the firm had grown significantly in capability and recognition — but their visual identity and website did not reflect that evolution.

Key challenges included:

  • A logo originally designed internally — technically meaningful but visually unrefined
  • An outdated HTML website that was difficult to maintain
  • Limited flexibility for content updates
  • A brand presence that lacked cohesion and polish

The firm needed a professional identity that matched their authority in environmental engineering, without losing the authenticity of their origins.

1. Logo Redesign: Evolution, Not Replacement

The original logo held sentimental and historical value. Rather than discarding it, we approached the redesign as an evolution by:

  • Refining proportions and typography
  • Modernized color usage
  • Simplified visual elements for clarity and scalability
  • Preserved recognizable characteristics of the original mark

The updated logo maintained its scientific roots while gaining a more contemporary, professional feel — better suited for proposals, reports, and government contracts.

This careful balance respected the firm’s history while elevating its market presence.

2. Website Transition: HTML to WordPress

At the time, the firm’s website was built in static HTML — making updates slow, technical, and inefficient. We transitioned the site to WordPress, creating:

  • A more flexible content management system
  • Improved navigation and information architecture
  • Cleaner presentation of service areas
  • Easier updates for project highlights and news
  • A scalable foundation for future growth

This shift significantly reduced internal friction and made it easier for the firm to manage content without relying on technical intervention for every update.
